Singapore Biology Reporting Challenge (SBRC) 2025

About the SBRC

The Singapore Biology Reporters Challenge gives young writers an opportunity to venture into science writing. The challenge is simple – design a news report to capture something that matters in the world of biology.

Requirements

All student participants must be be studying in a secondary school or pre-tertiary institution as of 2025.

Submission Guidelines

The following report types will be accepted for the challenge (the list is non-exhaustive; if you have a creative way to present your report, give it a shot!): 

  • Research explainers (of journal articles, etc.)

  • Interview / AMA reports

  • Factfiles 

  • Multimedia reports (e.g. articles structured as pictures accompanied with captions, reports designed as social media posts/infographics)

  • Historical reports

In addition, there is a word limit of 1000 words. Citations should be carried out in APA 7 format.

SBRC launch: 1st Edition Awards
The top 3 articles submitted from the beginning of the challenge till August 20th will be offered cash prizes in addition to their certificates:
  • 1st (Gold): $50 

  • 2nd (Silver): $30

  • 3rd (Bronze): $20

The top 10% in grading will receive certificates of distinction, while the top 30% will receive certificates of merit
